Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Ontech Life Assurance app, USSD service and web portal. By using the Services you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of Zambia to register an account. Persons under 18 may be named as beneficiaries by an adult policyholder.

2. The Service

Ontech provides a digital platform for purchasing, paying for and managing life-assurance products underwritten by Ontech Life Assurance (or partner insurers as disclosed at point of sale). Ontech Solutions Limited acts as the regulated distribution and technology operator.

3. Accounts & security

• You are responsible for safeguarding your OTP, PIN and biometric credentials.
• You must not share your account with any third party.
• You must notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use.

4. Policies, premiums & claims

• Each policy is governed by its specific Policy Schedule and underlying Policy Wording, available in-app and emailed to you.
• Premiums are payable on or before the due date. Non-payment may result in policy lapse subject to the grace period set in the Policy Wording.
• Claims must be reported within the time frame stated in the Policy Wording. Settlement is subject to verification of supporting documentation.
• All amounts are stated in Zambian Kwacha (ZMW).

5. Mobile money & bank transactions

Premium collections and benefit payouts are processed through licensed mobile-money operators (Airtel Money, MTN MoMo, Zamtel Kwacha) and licensed Zambian banks. Their terms also apply. Ontech is not responsible for failures or delays caused solely by those operators.

6. Fees

Use of the app, USSD service, and web portal is free. You only pay the premium quoted for each policy plus the 5% PIA Premium Levy as required by section 32 of the Insurance Act 2021.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Submit false, misleading or fraudulent information.
• Attempt to access another user's account or data.
• Reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with the Services.
• Use the Services to violate any law, including the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act 2025.

8. Intellectual property

All software, designs, trademarks and content are the property of Ontech Solutions Limited or its licensors. You are granted a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Services for their intended purpose.

9. Privacy

Our handling of your data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

10. Service availability

We aim for 99% uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend the Service for maintenance, security or regulatory reasons.

11. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Zambian law, Ontech's total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Services is limited to the total premium you have paid in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

12. Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us, subject to the run-off provisions of any active policy. We may suspend or close an account on reasonable notice if you breach these Terms or applicable law.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you by email or in-app message and the new Terms take effect 14 days after notice.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Zambia. The courts of Zambia have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms, save where consumer-protection law gives you a non-waivable right to bring proceedings in another forum.
